| Kurosawa Kiyoshi
Born in Kobe, Hyogo-ken in 1955, Kurosawa Kiyoshi is a graduate of the sociology department of Rikkyo University. He began filmmaking in college with an 8mm camera, and won a prize at the 1980 PIA FILM FESTIVAL. After working as an assistant director with Hasegawa Kazuhiko and Somai Shinji, Kurosawa made his debut as a commercial film director in 1983 with Kandagawa Warriors. His popularity increased with such films as The Excitement Of The Do-Re-Mi-Fa Girl and The Guard From The Underground.
In 1992, Kurosawa was awarded the Sundance Institute Scholarship for his original film script Charisma and traveled to the United States for study in filmmaking. From 1995, he put out the Suit Yourself or Shoot Yourself and Revenge series to name a few. In 1997, he wrote and directed Cure, which received international acclaim. His film accomplished a Grand Slam, appearing at the three top film festivals in the world: the Cannes, Venice, and Berlin. Also, his retrospective was shown in the Toronto International Film Festival
